Some sample discussion from a learning consult and evaluation appointment

I thought I would share a few things that I discussed at a recent homeschool consultation and evaluation appointment. These are a few ideas of many with a dash of my home learning life snippets thrown in for spice. I love so many parts of my work as an evaluator and integrative learning coach. I learn from my clients and their families. I share things that help folks and they share things with me that I in turn, pass along to others. I love sharing my adventures and hearing others' adventures. I love seeing learning work. I love helping others free themselves from the obstacles they fall into. I'm so grateful.

Something to ponder (and we do often in our home) is checking in to see how or if you are feeling balanced in your learning life. In our house, if the kids consume too much learning where they are more passive, watching or just listening, then I start to feel that we need to do more energy involved work where they write, do handwritten math, or build projects or things. I find more joy when we are varied in learning where they are active and passive. So if you ever feel frustrated or off kilter, check in whether you have been building and producing so much to burnout, then if that’s the case, ponder taking a breather and doing read aloud time or documentaries or more passive learning. If you feel inertia and how I feel where my kids start wanting to “be entertained or talked at, whether media or even me,” that’s when I try to engage hands and writing or building, encouraging them to take that energy and produce or create.

Intuitively, parents know their kids best and when things are right or off. So, something to ponder is checking in and always tweaking as necessary.

Please take any things from me as things- take or disregard as you both know your children best!
